Francis Bowyer PPRWS NEAC works in watercolour, oil and mixed media. He is a member and past President of the Royal Watercolour Society 2000 – 2003 and is a member of the New English Art Club.
He teaches life drawing at the Royal Academy of Art, London as well as at Richmond Adult and community college
Bowyer was born in London, and studied at St Martins School of Art and Chelsea School of Art. He now lives and works in West London and exhibits regularly at the Royal Watercolour Society and the New English Art club. He was the featured artist at the RWS in 1991. Awards include the W H Patterson Fine Arts Award 1995 and his work earned him the Arts Club Prize at the 226th Royal Academy. His paintings of the children on the beach at Walberswick, Suffolk and his interiors of Parisian restaurants create a lively vibrancy that has enchanted the public and buyers at each exhibition.
In 2013 Francis Bowyer visited Camp Bastion in Afghanistan to make a series of war paintings, which were exhibited with the Royal Watercolour Society at the Bankside Gallery in London. One of the paintings in this body of work earned for Francis the prestigious Turner Watercolour Prize 2014, awarded every two years at the RWS Spring Exhibition.
