'Beachcombings' painting is of an assemblage of objects collected on numerous coastal walks around the U.K.
Waldron arranges the subjects by juxtaposing colour, form, pattern and texture, almost like an abstract composition, until they feel right in relationship to one another.
He applies an underpainting of ochre and umber, followed by up to thirty glazes of translucent watercolour to achieve the subtle variations of colour, and the finishing detail is done in opaque gouache applied with a very fine sable brush. After around 300 hours work, he is finally back by the sea!
